Lucy Marie Perkins’ birth story is more than miraculous. It’s not simply unlikely. It affects one out of every 48 million people.

Caitlin and Tom Perkins welcomed their first child, Lucy, into the world in August.

Caitlin and Tom are great people; they are husband and wife, both born on August 16, 1986.

But it appears that celebrating Mum and Dad’s birthday wasn’t enough for the tiny Perkins, who wanted to join the celebration 30 years later.

“Hold on to your telephone!” Caitlin’s obstetrician, Dr. Brad Robinson, posted on his Facebook page, “You are not going to believe this story!”

“Can you guess who else has an August 16th birthday now?” Yep. Due to surprise labor, Lucy was born yesterday, on the same day as her parents!”

Oh, yes! This means that Mum, Dad, and the baby all share the same birthday; the likelihood of this occurring is one in 48 million.

This occurred over a week after Mum’s due date.

Lucy entered the world before Caitlin and Tom, who live in Dirranbandi, South West Queensland, could attend their joint 30th birthday dinner.

Caitlin entered labor and was sent to Brisbane’s Greenslopes Private Hospital.

“When my waters broke, I said, ‘No way,’ because I was in denial,” she said.

Bub, on the other hand, couldn’t wait any longer and arrived on Tuesday at 39 weeks and 6:45 pm, weighing a healthy 3.3kg.

Dr. Robinson, who has been in the industry for almost a decade, describes it as one of the most memorable days of his life.

“I’m fortunate enough to have a career that allows me to have special days on special days,” he explained, “but yesterday was wonderful.”

“It’s not every day that you get up at 2:15 a.m. to answer the phone. But, about 2:15 a.m., I received a call from the midwife informing me that Caitlin had broken her waters, which I was pleased about because I had been pushing for it.”

Wow.

One thing is sure: the Perkins will throw a fantastic celebration every August 16th.
