Flight Attendant Spots Traveling Dad In Distress During Flight Mid-Air

  • 3 min read

A Frantic Father in Row Twelve

A young father rocked a red-faced baby back and forth against his chest, his knuckles white where he supported her tiny back.

The infant shrieked in bursts, kicking her feet out against his dark sweater while passengers in neighboring seats turned their heads to watch.

On the plastic tray table rested an open tin of powdered formula and a clear baby bottle filled with cold liquid that the child refused to touch.

His brow furrowed deeply as he pressed his cheek to her forehead, murmuring low words that were completely drowned out by her wails.

A uniform sleeve brushed against the edge of the seat as a flight attendant stopped in the aisle and rested a hand gently on the seat frame.

She leaned down toward him, her eyebrows raised in concern, and asked quietly what was wrong.

The father looked up, his eyes rimmed with exhaustion as he explained that his daughter was hungry but flatly refused to take the bottle.

He explained that his wife was working in another city, and he was flying alone with the baby to reunite their family.

Searching for an Answer

The flight attendant listened closely, her eyes shifting down toward the crying infant whose arms flailed against the father’s collar.

She asked if she could try to help, reaching her hands outward to offer support.

The father nodded quickly, his shoulders dropping a couple of inches as someone stepped into his immediate struggle.

She picked up the baby bottle from the tray table and pressed her fingers against the plastic casing.

The formula inside was chilly to the touch, having sat out in the air-conditioned cabin air.

The father admitted he had no way to heat the water while sitting strapped in mid-flight.

She gave him a reassuring nod, lifted the bottle from the tray, and turned to walk toward the forward galley.

Mixing the Formula in the Galley

Inside the galley, she positioned the bottle beneath the hot water dispenser, filling it with steaming water before returning to row twelve.

She stepped back into the father’s row, bottle in hand, and asked how many scoops of powder the child usually took.

He answered that two scoops was the regular amount, his voice noticeably calmer than when she first arrived.

Holding the bottle steady over the tray table, she leveled two scoops of powdered formula and emptied them smoothly into the warm water.

She screwed the teat collar down tight and shook the bottle up and down until the powder dissolved into a smooth, warm mixture.

Leaning forward, she handed the prepared bottle straight back to the waiting father.

A Peaceful Finish in Mid-Flight

The father brought the soft silicone teat toward the baby’s open mouth, gently touching it to her lips.

The crying ceased instantly as the infant latched onto the bottle, her tiny hands reaching up to cup her father’s fingers.

Her rapid breathing slowed into deep, rhythmic gulps while the milk level steadily dropped inside the bottle.

The father tilted his head back slightly and exhaled, a wide smile breaking across his tired face as he thanked the attendant.

She smiled back at the pair, stepped into the aisle, and walked softly toward the back of the aircraft.

The father shifted his daughter in his arms, looking directly into the camera lens with a grin as the baby quietly finished her bottle.
