Salesman Orders Worn-Out Customer Away From Luxury Motorbike Floor

  • 4 min read

A Rough Hand on Polished Paint

An older man wearing scuffed work boots and grease-streaked denim walked down the gleaming white showroom aisle. He paused beside a brand-new sport bike, lowered his hand, and rested his weathered palm flat against the dark metallic paint of the fuel tank.

A salesman in a tailored black suit and red silk tie marched across the floor with his jaw clenched. He extended his index finger toward the older man, shouting across the showroom to keep his hands off the vehicle.

The visitor did not pull his hand back right away. He slowly turned his head, looking up into the salesman’s scowling face with relaxed eyes, explaining quietly that he was only having a look.

The salesman crossed his arms tightly against his chest, tucking his thumbs into his armpits. He raised his chin and stated that people dressed like him had no business standing next to inventory they could never afford.

The older man smoothed his hands along the pockets of his torn denim jacket. He replied with steady breath, telling the younger man that clothing does not tell the whole truth about a person.

Tension Across the Showroom Floor

The salesman stepped closer until only inches separated their chests. He pointed an open hand toward the glass exit doors, his teeth showing as he declared the business a luxury showroom rather than a shelter.

Nearby customers stopped inspecting the rows of cruisers and turned their shoulders toward the dispute. A young woman took a half-step back, watching the salesman’s reddening neck as he leaned over the quiet visitor.

The older man remained balanced on both boots, his weight shifted evenly on the polished floor. Without raising his volume, he asked to see the general manager.

A burst of sarcastic laughter left the salesman’s lips as he set his knuckles on his hips. He shook his head, asking why a corporate executive would bother carving out a single minute for a man in dirty clothes.

The visitor rested his hands loosely by his sides and offered a small, subtle grin. He replied that the manager would certainly find a few minutes to spare.

The Executive Steps Into the Light

Glass doors at the rear corridor clicked open, and an executive dressed in a charcoal blazer walked briskly into the main hall. His leather shoes clicked rhythmically against the bright tile as he ignored the gleaming vehicles around him.

The salesman smoothed his red tie and puffed his chest, expecting backup to remove the trespasser. But the executive bypassed the salesman completely, extending both hands outward toward the man in the torn Levi’s jacket.

The executive grasped the older man’s rough hand in a warm, two-handed grip and bowed his head respectfully. He announced aloud that the entire staff had been waiting all morning for his arrival.

The salesman’s mouth dropped open, his crossed arms falling limp at his sides. He pointed a trembling finger between the two men, stumbling over his words as he asked how they could possibly know one another.

The manager turned his shoulders, his brow furrowing into deep ridges. He stated plainly that the visitor standing in front of them owned the entire dealership and every machine parked inside it.

Surrendering the Showroom Floor

The older owner turned his gaze onto the salesman, who was now shifting his weight from heel to toe. The owner asked if the three of them should step aside to examine his treatment of dealership guests.

The salesman tried to swallow, his voice cracking into a high pitch as he explained that he had no idea who was standing before him. His hands fumbled along the lapels of his jacket, searching for something to steady his balance.

The manager reached out his open palm without blinking. He demanded the salesman’s company credentials immediately.

The salesman reached behind the nape of his neck and unclipped the plastic identification badge from his collar. His fingers shook as he dropped the clip and lanyard directly into the manager’s outstretched palm.

Other shoppers and dealership employees stood motionless between the rows of motorbikes, watching the dismissed salesman drop his chin toward his chest. The owner turned his back on the bowed figure and walked toward the sunny front windows with his hands resting easily at his sides.
