Suit-Clad Salesman Challenges Disheveled Man Browsing A High-End Boutique

  • 4 min read

A Cold Reception

An older man with gray hair and fraying denim rested his weathered fingertips against the glass counter of a luxury watch display. His jacket bore torn seams and dust, and his jeans were shredded at the knees.

He leaned forward slightly, studying a polished stainless-steel timepiece resting on a velvet stand inside the showcase. Steps echoed sharply across the marble floor as a young clerk in a tailored black suit moved toward him.

The clerk stopped less than two feet away, tilted his head back, and let out an abrupt, mocking laugh. His shoulders squared as he scanned the older man from his scuffed work boots to his worn collar.

“Sir, that watch costs more than everything you’re wearing,” the clerk said, his chin raised high. His arm crossed over his chest, his posture rigid and dismissive.

Drawn Lines Across the Glass

The older man did not flinch or look away from the case. He shifted his weight slowly, turning his face upward to meet the younger man’s gaze.

“I didn’t ask you to judge me,” the older man answered, his voice low and steady. “I asked to see the watch.”

The clerk shook his head sharply and stepped closer, invading the visitor’s space. He tapped the gold band of his own wristwatch with an impatient finger.

“Then stop wasting my time,” the salesman snapped, gesturing toward the polished doorway. “People like you come in here just to touch things they could never afford.”

The older man blinked slowly, the deep creases around his eyes remaining entirely still. He kept his hands tucked loosely in the pockets of his ragged jacket.

“You should be very careful who you decide is poor,” the older man warned quietly.

The clerk scoffed, throwing his head back once again with a wide grin. “What could you possibly afford?”

A Sudden Commotion

Before the younger man could finish his sentence, the glass double doors at the front of the boutique swung open with force. Quick, rhythmic footsteps clattered across the polished floor tiles.

A woman in a sharp dark business suit sprinted into the showroom, breathing heavily and scanning the room in panic. Her eyes darted past the illuminated vitrines before locking onto the counter where the two men stood.

“Where is he?” she cried out, her hands clasped together as she closed the distance. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

The salesman stepped back, blinking in confusion as he looked between the breathless executive and the man in threadbare clothes. “Wait,” the clerk stammered, pointing a finger. “You know him?”

The woman turned sharply toward the clerk, her brow furrowing into a fierce scowl. “Know him? He owns this boutique!”

Stripped of the Badge

The salesman’s mouth fell open, his lower jaw dropping as his shoulders sank visibly. His eyes widened, darting between the woman’s furious face and the older man’s calm posture.

“You humiliated the man who built this company,” she declared, raising an index finger directly toward the salesman’s chest.

The founder stepped forward, his eyes fixing on the store associate whose confident smirk had completely vanished. The younger man pulled his hands back against his sides, shifting his feet uneasily.

“You judged my clothes before you ever asked my name,” the founder said, his tone measured and firm. “He doesn’t represent this store anymore.”

The manager stepped between them, pointing a stiff arm toward the street outside the glass entrance. “Take off that badge,” she demanded. “You’re finished.”

The salesman reached trembling fingers to the lapel of his tailored suit jacket, unhooking the metal name tag and clutching it in his fist as the founder watched in silence from the marble floor.
