Elderly Woman In Dirty Overalls Examines Showroom Ferrari Before Staff Intervenes

  • 3 min read

A Quiet Touch On Polished Paint

An elderly woman rested her weathered palm flat against the smooth red fender of a showroom sports car.

Her beige coveralls bore dark smudges of motor oil and field dust, creasing around her worn work boots. A floppy bucket hat shaded her white hair, pulling down low across her forehead as she studied the glossy curve of the hood.

Behind her, sharp heels clicked across the high-gloss white tile floor.

A sales associate stepped up in a tailored black dress, her hair pinned neatly into a bun. Her eyes swept down the length of the dirty coveralls before fixing on the frail hand resting on the paint.

“Showroom’s for buyers,” the associate said, her voice sharp and level.

Directed Toward The Exit

The older woman did not pull her fingers away from the metal. She turned her chin slowly toward the clerk, keeping her shoulders still.

“I’m looking, dear,” she answered softly.

The sales associate flicked her right wrist toward the large glass facade facing the parking lot. Her mouth hardened as she maintained her stance.

“Look through the window,” the clerk commanded, taking half a step closer to assert her authority.

The elderly woman took a gentle breath, lifted her fingers from the red fender, and let her arm fall to her side. She stood quietly in place, looking directly at the young woman without stepping back.

Footsteps From The Office

A set of rapid footfalls broke the quiet from the back corridor.

A man in a charcoal suit and patterned tie came jogging through the glass office doors, gripping a black leather clipboard against his chest. As he drew near the vehicle, his fingers reached up and snatched his spectacles from his face.

He skidded to a halt beside the red sports car, his chest heaving under his jacket.

“Mrs. Hale owns this dealership,” he stammered, his eyes darting between the older woman and the frozen sales associate. “And the other four.”

The young woman in black stepped backward. Her jaw fell slack, and both of her palms flew up to cover her mouth.

A Final Decision On The Floor

Mrs. Hale looked past the stunned clerk and let her gaze drift along the long row of luxury vehicles lined up across the ceramic tiles.

Her hand reached out once again, lightly patting the bright red hood of the car.

“I’ll take the red one, dear,” Mrs. Hale said, her voice steady and clear across the room. “And a new sales floor.”

The clerk remained frozen in place, her palms still pressed against her lips while the manager gripped his clipboard tight against his chest.
