Man Investigates Mischievous Dog Upstairs And Faces An Unfolding Kitchen Emergency

  • 3 min read

An Unexpected Downpour

A metal bowl flipped over the edge of the second-story balcony railing, spilling a wave of cold water straight onto the sidewalk below.

The man walking underneath took the full brunt of the splash across his shoulders and chest. He stopped mid-stride, shaking moisture from his forearms as dark wet patches spread rapidly down his olive shirt and denim jeans.

Looking up toward the white balustrade, he spotted a Belgian Malinois staring down at him. The dog let out a sharp sequence of barks, paced rapidly along the balcony ledge, and darted back through the open doorway into the home.

Following The Call Upstairs

Instead of continuing down the sunlit street, the man turned toward the front entrance of the multi-story home. He placed one hand on the wooden railing and jogged up the flight of stairs toward the apartment door.

The door swung open to reveal the dog standing in the entryway hall, leaning forward on its paws. Wisps of pale smoke drifted along the ceiling tiles just behind the animal’s head.

The dog turned sharply and led the way toward the kitchen, its nails clicking against the hardwood floor. The man stepped inside, sniffing the air as gray haze began to thicken around the doorframe.

Flames On The Counter

Tall orange flames flickered along the stovetop, licking up toward the overhead wooden cabinets. Dense white smoke curled outward, filling the upper half of the kitchen.

The man grabbed a red fire extinguisher mounted beside the counter. He planted his work boots firmly on the floor, aimed the black nozzle directly at the base of the fire, and pulled the pin.

A thick jet of white retardant sprayed across the burners. Within seconds, the chemical fog enveloped the flames, choking them down until only charred pans and faint gray wisps remained.

A Gentle Rescue

Lowering the empty canister to the floor, he noticed an elderly woman sitting slumped against the lower kitchen cabinets. Her purple cardigan brushed the baseboards as she struggled to pull herself upward.

The man crouched down beside her, placing a stabilizing hand on her shoulder while the dog pressed its snout against her knee. The woman looked up with wide eyes, breathing slowly as the smoke thinned around them.

He slid his arms beneath her knees and back, lifting her gently off the kitchen floor. Carrying her through the doorway, he navigated the hallway with the Malinois following close at his heels.

Outside on the sidewalk, paramedics guided a wheeled gurney toward the front steps. They settled the woman beneath a light blanket while emergency lights reflected off the surrounding palm trees.

The woman reached out a trembling hand from the stretcher, resting her fingers against the dog’s muzzle. The Malinois pressed its forehead gently into her palm while the man stood close by, keeping his arm steady along the side of the gurney.

Later, inside a quiet recovery room, the elderly woman rested upright against white hospital pillows. Sunlight poured through the wide window, illuminating the bedside monitor beside her.

The dog stood up on its hind paws, resting its front legs against the edge of the mattress. The woman wrapped both hands around the dog’s neck, drawing its head close against her chest as her fingers sank into the thick tan fur.
