A Cry Along The Pasture Perimeter
The brown and white doe paced back and forth across the tall grass, pressing her muzzle toward the bottom rail of the wooden fence.
A high-pitched bleat echoed from the opposite side of the enclosure.
A tiny white kid pressed its small head against the square openings of the metal wire mesh, completely unable to squeeze its body through to reach its mother.
A man in green rubber boots and work trousers stopped his stride in the field, tracking the mother goat’s frantic steps.
He walked directly toward the boundary line where the wooden posts met the rolling green pasture.
Clearing The Obstacle
The man approached the fence line, his boots sinking lightly into the damp turf as he positioned himself beside the distress calls.
He lowered himself onto one knee, leaning forward over the wet grass to inspect the situation closely.
A thick, weathered tree branch was jammed firmly against the base of the wire netting, blocking any possible gap along the ground.
The white kid stood with its hooves planted in the dirt on the far side, crying out toward the doe.
Placing both hands around the rough bark of the fallen limb, the man lifted the heavy wood away from the wire barrier and pulled it clear onto the turf.
Creating An Escape Route
With the obstruction cleared, the bottom strand of tension wire still hugged tightly against the soil.
The man reached his bare hands down between the fence slats, gripping the lower edge of the steel mesh with his fingers.
He pulled upward with steady force, bending the taught wire just high enough to reveal a narrow pocket of open ground beneath it.
The kid hesitated for a second, peering through the gap before taking a tentative forward step on trembling legs.
The man kept his grip firm on the wire, holding the tight opening wide while speaking softly toward the young animal.
Scrambling forward on its belly, the kid squeezed its ears and shoulders underneath the lifted wire and pushed into the open field.
Reunion In The Open Pasture
The man let the wire spring back down into place, his hand gently reaching out to steady the kid’s white flank as it gained its footing.
The mother goat stepped right between the man’s knees, burying her nose into the youngster’s neck and ears to check every inch of its body.
The small white kid shook its tail rapidly, pressed close against its mother’s side.
Turning away from the fence, the doe broke into an easy trot across the open field, with the little white kid running directly beside her white hind legs as the man watched from the grass.
