Woman Stopped At Corporate Lobby Entrance Before Executive Intervenes

  • 3 min read

A Sudden Block at the Lobby Gate

A security guard stepped directly into the path of an elderly woman crossing the polished marble floor.

He raised his right palm flat against her chest line, cutting off her forward stride. The woman, dressed in a tailored mustard-yellow blazer and dark slacks, pulled back slightly and tightened her grip on a black leather portfolio.

Outside the towering glass glass walls, the street was bright, but inside, the lobby entrance remained completely still. The guard shifted his boots wider apart, planting himself between her and the elevator turnstiles.

He barked that visitors had to wait on the sidewalk until someone escorted them inside. She held her chin high, replying that she was expected on the upper floors.

Instead of checking his clipboard, the guard leaned forward, pointing a stiff finger toward the revolving glass doors behind her. His hand moved toward the black portfolio pressed against her ribcage, his fingers closing onto the edge of the leather.

Hands on the Portfolio

“Take your hand off my property,” she told him, her voice level and firm.

The guard did not step back. His shoulders squared as he sneered at her yellow jacket, asking if she thought fancy clothing granted special clearance.

Her fingers remained clamped onto the edges of the folder. Neither backed down an inch as other employees walked past the turnstiles in the background.

Rapid footsteps echoed off the high ceiling from the long executive corridor. A man in a dark tailored suit and grey silk tie broke into a jog, shouting across the open foyer.

He threw his arms out between the guard and the woman, breaking the physical barrier the uniform had created. The executive ordered the guard to step back and pull his hands away immediately.

The guard blinked, his mouth dropping slightly open as he stammered that the woman had refused to wait outside on the curb. The executive cut him off with an outstretched finger, demanding if the guard had any idea who stood before him.

The Folder Swings Open

The executive turned his back on the guard and lowered his head toward the woman. His posture softened completely as he asked if she had brought the founding documents.

She unzipped the black leather binder and swung the two halves open between them. Inside sat two framed exhibits: aged architectural blueprints on the left and an original certificate of incorporation on the right.

The executive held up the open display directly toward the guard’s face so the black ink and vintage seals caught the overhead lighting. He told the guard that the woman standing before him had designed the entire structure from the foundation up and held the majority shares of the company.

The guard’s eyes flicked from the yellowed drafting paper to the executive’s stern face, his fingers curling downward at his sides.

The woman smoothed the lapel of her blazer and stated that she had simply come to inspect what her enterprise had turned into over the years.

The executive extended his arm toward the private elevators, pointing his finger toward the ceiling and ushering the group upward, while the guard stood alone by the turnstiles with his hands clasped behind his belt.
