Store Manager Tries To Evict Senior While Employee Steps Forward

  • 3 min read

A Sudden Confrontation at the Entrance

The store manager lunged forward and snatched the brown paper bag straight out of the older man’s weathered hands.

He pointed a stiff index finger directly toward the revolving glass doors, his lips pulled tight as he barked an order to leave.

The elderly visitor leaned hard against a wooden walking cane. His tweed flat cap sat low over his brow, shadowing a gray beard and worn jacket.

His fingers trembled slightly around the carved wooden handle of his cane as he tried to maintain his balance on the slick marble floor.

Several shoppers stopped walking, turning their heads as the manager stepped into the visitor’s path to block him.

An Armchair and a Cold Glass

A young female employee in a navy blazer stepped past the manager and reached out to support the older man’s elbow.

She guided him slowly across the polished tiles, matching his uneven stride until they reached a white leather armchair.

She placed both hands gently beneath his shoulders, easing his weight down into the cushioned seat so he could rest his feet.

While the manager stood a few feet away with his arms crossed over his chest, the woman turned toward the service station.

She returned carrying a clear glass filled with water, holding it with both hands as she extended it toward him.

The man took the glass with two unsteady hands, tilting his head back to drink while his cane rested against the chair cushion.

The woman knelt beside him, listening quietly as he leaned in and spoke in a soft, low tone.

A Pair of Polished Leather Shoes

The woman stood up, walked to a nearby glass display shelf, and lifted a pair of handcrafted brown leather dress shoes.

The manager stepped directly in front of her, raising an arm and jabbing his finger toward the footwear to stop her.

She ignored the gesture, walking around his shoulder to kneel beside the seated visitor once again.

She held the shoes out on her flat palms, tilting them forward so the older man could inspect the fine stitching along the seams.

A faint smile touched the corners of the man’s mouth as his fingers brushed the smooth leather surface.

Heavy footsteps clicked against the entrance floor as the revolving doors pushed open once more.

A Revelation at the Counter

An executive in a tailored charcoal suit walked into the showroom carrying a black leather portfolio under his arm.

The store manager hurried over with an eager smile, reaching out an open hand to welcome the arriving executive.

The executive walked past the manager’s outstretched hand and stopped directly before the elderly man in the armchair.

He bowed his head slightly, clasping the older man’s rough hand between both of his own with a deep nod.

The manager’s mouth fell open, his arms dropping limp against the sides of his trousers.

The older man stood up straight, setting aside his walking stick as he unbuttoned his coat and pulled out an engraved binder.

He reached toward the manager’s lapel, unpinning the gold name badge with a slow, deliberate twist of his wrist.

Turning toward the young woman who had brought him water, the older man opened a silver case and handed her a set of brass master keys.

Her hands flew up to cover her mouth as tears gathered in the corners of her eyes.

Behind them, the disgraced manager pushed open the glass exit doors, carrying a cardboard box packed with his personal desk supplies.

The staff members lined the walkway, clapping their hands in rhythm as the older man firmly gripped the young woman’s hand in a closing handshake.
