A Homeless Man Receives A Warm Meal On The Street

  • 3 min read

A Quick Hand On A Cobblestone Street

The young man held the warm wrapped burger in one hand as his white sneakers struck the damp cobblestones. He walked past vintage storefronts and cafe awnings, heading straight toward an older man seated on a flattened cardboard box against the weathered stone wall.

Dropping down onto one knee, he reached out with both hands and placed the wrapped food directly into the older man’s worn fingers. “Here you go, I got this for you,” he murmured, resting his palm gently over the paper wrapper.

The grey-bearded man pulled the burger close against his chest. His shoulders dropped slightly, his eyes widening as he looked up into the younger man’s face with a quiet nod of thanks.

Carrying The Meal Away

Clutching the foil and paper wrapping, the older man climbed slowly to his feet, tucking the burger close to his jacket. He turned away from the main promenade and slipped into a narrow alleyway lined with brick facades and scattered debris.

He walked with deliberate, cautious steps along the uneven stones, cradling the meal between both palms. His mouth curved into an easy grin as he moved past stacked cardboard boxes and empty soda cans.

Farther up the street, the young man continued his stride through the village, carrying a stainless steel flask in hand. His pace slowed as he glanced around an intersection, his eyes scanning the side paths.

Sharing What Was Given

Deep within the alley, a young boy sat alone against a red brick wall on a damp sheet of cardboard. His dirty denim pants were dusted with grime, and his hands rested flat against his knees.

The older man bent down low on his knees, leaning forward toward the boy. Carefully pulling the wrapping back to reveal the warm burger, he extended both arms and placed the entire meal into the boy’s open hands.

The child looked up with wide, bright eyes, wrapping his fingers around the sandwich before pulling it toward himself with a wide smile. The older man kept his hands outstretched, nodding gently as the boy gasped in delight.

Sitting Down Together

Before long, the young man with curly hair caught up to the pair in the brick-lined street, setting down paper grocery bags packed with fresh baguettes, milk, and ripe fruit. All three sat together directly on the cardboard laid out across the stone path.

The young boy tilted back a glass bottle of milk, drinking deeply with his cheeks puffed out. Beside him, both men tore off generous crusts from the crusty baguettes and took large, synchronized bites while leaning shoulder to shoulder.

A cluster of fresh apples, grapes, and oranges sat scattered across the butcher paper in the center of the walkway. The child leaned his head against the older man’s shoulder, smiling brightly under the warm sun while the young man laughed beside them.
