Will A Dad Make It To His Son’s Little League Game?

  • 3 min read

A Pre-Game Promise in the Bedroom

A boy dressed in a white and blue baseball uniform adjusts his leather glove in his bedroom. He looks up at his father standing near the doorway, his fingers tightening around the pocket of the leather glove.

“Dad, you’ll be there this time, right?” he asks, his voice soft as he tilts his head upward toward his dad.

The father steps into the bedroom, rests a hand gently on his son’s shoulder, and smiles down at him warmheartedly.

“I promise, buddy,” the father says, looking directly into his young eyes. “I won’t miss it.”

Stepping Onto the Field

The boy’s face brightens instantly into a wide smile. He grips his wooden bat and leather glove tightly before walking toward the bedroom door alongside his father.

Moments later, the scene shifts to a sunny local baseball field framed by chain-link fences and green outfield grass. The boy stands on the dirt track in full uniform, wearing a dark blue batting helmet on his head.

He turns toward the crowded bleachers, searching the rows of spectators sitting under the afternoon sunlight.

His eyes quickly lock onto a familiar face standing near the chain-link fence, wearing a red collared shirt and a dark navy baseball cap.

“Dad, you made it!” the boy shouts cheerfully, cupping a gloved hand around his mouth to reach across the noise.

A Big Swing and a Father’s Cheer

The father leans over the chain-link fence, grinning broadly as he looks back at his son. “I told you I’d be here,” he replies with a reassuring tone.

With a broad grin, the boy adjusts his helmet strap and jogs out onto the field to join his teammates. They run across the grass together, ready for the first inning to begin.

Later in the game, the boy steps up to home plate wearing a red helmet and jersey uniform. He pulls his bat back, focuses on the pitch, and swings hard across the plate, making clean contact with the ball.

He turns immediately toward the grandstand with an eager grin on his face. “Did you see that?” he calls out across the dirt field.

Shared Celebration at the Fence

From behind the fence, the father applauds loudly while looking at his son standing near home plate. He leans forward against the metal chain-link barrier, offering a firm thumbs-up gesture.

“I saw everything, buddy,” the father calls out back to him. “I’m so proud of you.”

The boy beams happily, taking a deep breath as he adjusts his cap and holding his glove tightly near the dugout entrance.

The father walks down to the edge of the dugout fence, resting his arm on the top bar as his son steps over to chat with him between innings.
