Showroom Salesman Blocks Modestly Dressed Customer From Touching A Sedan

  • 3 min read

A Hand on the Car Door

An older man reached his hand toward the chrome handle of the silver sedan parked on the showroom floor.

Before his fingers made contact with the paint, another arm cut across his path.

A dealership salesman stepped directly into his space, his palm raised in a firm stopping motion.

The salesman shook his head and ordered the man to step away from the vehicle immediately.

The visitor pulled his hand back, resting it against the fabric of his dark work jacket.

He looked at the younger man in the dark suit and stated calmly that he was interested in buying the car.

The salesman tilted his head, scanning the older man’s worn jacket, plain shoes, and gray hair.

A dismissive smirk pulled at the corner of the salesman’s mouth as he declared that the vehicle was far beyond the man’s budget.

Standing Ground on the Showroom Floor

The customer did not flinch or step back.

He spoke quietly, pointing out that the salesman did not know who he was or what he carried in his bank account.

The salesman leaned forward, inches from the man’s face, insisting he knew everything he needed to know just by looking at him.

He raised a finger and pointed it directly at the showroom exit, refusing to offer a test drive.

The older gentleman did not raise his voice.

Instead, he told the salesman to call the general manager to the floor.

The salesman scoffed, crossing his arms and asking why he should waste anyone else’s time.

The visitor reached deep into his jacket pocket and pulled out a set of keys on a ring.

He held the metal keys in the air between them.

The salesman glanced down at the keys, shook his head, and asked if a ring of keys was supposed to impress him.

A Familiar Face Arrives

Footsteps echoed across the polished floor tiles from the back offices.

A second man in a tailored suit walked briskly toward the pair, his eyes widening as he approached.

The arriving manager bypassed the salesman entirely and extended both hands toward the older gentleman.

He greeted the visitor warmly by name, asking why he had not received advance notice of the visit.

The salesman stepped back, his eyes darting between his manager and the man in the dark jacket.

He asked the manager how he knew the visitor.

The manager turned his head, staring directly at the salesman’s nametag.

He explained that the man standing before them was Elijah Carter, the sole owner of the entire dealership network.

The color drained from the salesman’s cheeks, his shoulders slumping forward as his mouth opened slightly.

The Consequences of a Snap Judgment

The salesman stammered an apology, his hands fidgeting at his waist.

Elijah Carter looked at him without shouting, stating that someone’s worth should never be judged by the coat they wear.

The manager reached forward and unclipped the plastic name badge pinned to the salesman’s lapel.

He pulled the badge free and held it in his palm, informing the employee that his job was over.

The former salesman stood silent, staring at the floor tiles as Elijah turned back toward the silver sedan.
