A Push Toward the Door
The bank employee grabbed the older man’s collar and shoved him toward the glass exit doors.
Mud crusted the edges of the elderly man’s work boots, leaving dry flakes across the polished lobby floor.
He gripped a worn leather folder against his chest with both hands as his heels slid backward.
The employee pointed a finger inches from the man’s nose, shouting for him to clear out of the building.
The older man did not raise his voice. He kept his grip firm on the folder and stated that he came to see the branch manager.
Instead of listening, the employee grabbed him again, pushing him down onto one of the metal waiting chairs near the entryway.
An Abrupt Intervention
A woman wearing a tailored grey suit and an identification badge marched across the lobby floor.
She placed herself directly between the two men and ordered the employee to take his hands away.
The employee stepped back, adjusting his suit jacket while pointing back at the older man’s dirt-stained jacket.
He insisted that the visitor did not belong inside the financial institution and refused to leave.
The woman turned her eyes toward the chair, taking in the frayed fabric and weathered boots before asking if physical force had been used.
Without answering, the elderly man unclasped the brown leather folder resting in his lap and held it up toward her.
The Folder Opens
She took the document binder into both hands and flipped open the front cover.
Official seals and stamped property titles filled the crisp pages inside.
Her eyebrows raised as she read the name typed across the top of the agricultural ownership certificates.
She looked up from the parchment, addressing the seated man by name and identifying him as their largest agricultural account holder.
The employee’s arms dropped straight down to his sides, his eyes widening as he looked at the open binder.
The branch manager turned sharply toward her junior staff member and demanded an immediate spoken apology.
The Final Words
The suited employee bowed his chin toward his chest, mumbling an apology while staring directly at the tiled floor.
The older man pressed his palms onto his knees and pushed himself up to a full stand.
He adjusted the collar of his jacket, looked straight at the employee, and delivered his final words about character and working boots.
He took his folder back into his hand and walked toward the inner office alongside the manager.
