Bank Teller Tells Poorly Dressed Customer To Leave Before Checking File

  • 3 min read

A Swift Rejection

The bank manager leaned across the polished mahogany counter and gestured toward the glass exit doors.

He smoothed his dark blue suit jacket over his lapels, eyeing the older customer standing in front of him.

Behind them, gold letters on a dark wood panel spelled out the words Private Banking.

The older man wore an oversized tan trench coat with frayed edges along the cuffs and noticeable wear around the collar.

In his hand, he held a simple dark folder pressed lightly against his stomach.

The manager explained that the private banking division maintained strict minimum asset requirements before pointing down the street toward a standard retail branch.

The older man did not step back or turn away.

He stood motionless, his grey hair neatly brushed back as he listened to the manager’s instructions.

A Single Card On The Counter

The customer unbuttoned his coat slightly and reached into his inner pocket.

He pulled out a slim, dark bank card and placed it onto the polished surface of the desk.

With a single finger, he slid the card across the glossy wood until it came to a rest directly beside the manager’s hands.

He instructed the employee to pull his file before making any final assumptions about his account status.

The manager looked down at the card, then brought his gaze back up to the man’s weathered face.

He tapped a series of keys on his computer terminal positioned beside a small desktop receipt printer.

A few seconds later, the thermal printer whirred to life, feeding out a white sheet of paper containing account details.

The Printed Truth

The manager reached down and tore the paper from the printer reel, lifting it up to read the details.

His brow furrowed as his eyes scanned the top section of the document.

His eyes widened significantly, staring intently at the figures printed across the middle of the sheet.

He adjusted his grip on the paper, lifting it closer to his face while his mouth remained slightly parted.

He looked over the top of the paper at the man standing across the desk, then lowered his gaze back to the printed lines.

He stated aloud that the information on the printout could not possibly be correct.

The older man kept his posture upright and spoke without raising his voice, telling him to read the paper again.

Reading The File

The employee held the document with both hands, his fingers pressing tightly against the paper edges.

He cleared his throat and read the exact summary line from the statement.

Out loud, he pronounced the net worth listed on the account balance: forty-one million dollars.

His expression remained frozen as he stared at the document, unable to offer another explanation.

The older man adjusted his folder under his arm and looked directly at the employee.

He told the manager that he had been reading his coat instead of reading his account file.

He turned away from the mahogany desk and began walking toward the main doors of the bank.

As he walked across the marble floor, several visible rips and torn patches were clearly displayed across the back of his brown trench coat.
