The receptionist raised her palm firmly, blocking the woman in the burgundy coat from taking another step toward the executive suites.

She turned around toward the glass revolving doors at the entrance just as a young courier in a blue uniform stepped into the building carrying a cardboard box.

The receptionist reached across the counter and tapped the desk, telling the driver to leave the item behind and proceed on his route.

Before the staff member could respond, a heavy glass door down the hallway swung open, revealing a man in a dark three-piece suit.
He buttoned his suit jacket as he walked out into the lobby, his eyes locking onto the woman standing near the door.

He approached with a stern expression, demanding to know why she had come to his workplace.
She pulled a plain cream-colored envelope from inside her coat pocket and extended her arm, offering it to him across the open lobby.
He kept his hands down at first, asking why she believed he would want anything from her after their recent separation.
She spoke softly, explaining that it was not a request for money or a favor, and urged him to look at what was inside.
He reluctantly reached out, took the paper envelope, and pulled out a worn photograph depicting a young boy standing between an older man and a woman in a floral dress.
His face pale as he stared down at the image, asking where she had managed to locate the old picture.
She explained that she had found it while going through items inside his late father’s house.

The delivery driver, still waiting beside the reception desk, caught sight of the vintage photo held in the executive’s hand.
He took a step forward, his eyes fixing on the woman portrayed in the photograph, and interrupted the conversation.
With tears welling up in his eyes, the courier explained that the woman shown in the photo was the person who had raised him.

His wife then handed over a second item—a yellowed, handwritten letter from Emily stating she had never stopped searching for her son until she was told he did not want her.
The businessman looked at his wife with tear-stained eyes, realizing she had come to bring him the truth despite their fractured marriage.
He placed his hand gently on the courier’s shoulder, inviting him into his office to talk about their shared past.
The three of them turned together and walked slowly down the long corridor, heading into the office as light shone through the glass entrance behind them.
