Rescuer Steps In When A Fox Gets Caught In Garden Netting

  • 2 min read

A Fox Trapped in the Mesh

A young red fox twisted against the ground, its paws and torso caught inside a sheet of wire netting spread across the autumn leaves.

A few yards away, a second fox stood still beneath the yellow leaves of an orchard tree, keeping its eyes locked on its companion.

Every slight shift pulled the thin wire tighter around the fox’s body, pinning its back legs down into the dry foliage.

Heavy rubber boots crunched across the grass as a woman in a plaid shirt walked into the enclosure.

She kept her movements slow and deliberate, wearing thick work gloves as she closed the distance between them.

Gently Loosening the Snare

She dropped down onto one knee beside the tangled animal, reaching out a gloved hand toward its head.

“Hey, easy little one,” she murmured, placing one palm flat against the fox’s neck to keep it calm.

The fox rested its chin against the fallen leaves, its dark eyes watching her hands as she began to inspect the tangle.

The thin hexagonal wire had looped around the fox’s midsection and bunched up under its hind legs.

Using both hands, she carefully worked her fingers between the metal mesh and the thick orange fur.

She lifted the wire strand by strand, easing each section over the fox’s hips without pulling on its coat.

In the background, the second fox remained standing in the sunlight, watching every movement of her hands.

Clearing the Final Wire

The trapped fox shifted slightly onto its side, allowing her better access to the wire caught beneath its belly.

She worked steadily, sliding the tangled netting down toward the animal’s tail and hind paws.

With a firm grip on the mesh, she lifted the fox’s hindquarters just enough to slide the last loop over its back leg.

The wire dropped flat against the ground, completely clear of the animal’s limbs.

The woman pulled both hands back, stepping onto her knees to give the animal immediate space.

Rejoining the Wild

The fox stood up on all four legs, paused for a fraction of a second, and shook its coat.

It pushed off the ground in a quick leap, clearing the netting and bounding straight toward the tree line.

The waiting fox turned, and both animals trotted side-by-side across the leaf-covered yard toward the distant fence.
