An Encounter Outside The Showroom
An older man with a long gray beard stepped toward the glossy black pickup truck parked on the dealership lot.
His hands rested near his sides as he leaned in closer, his boots scuffing gently against the clean pavement.
A salesman in a tailored gray suit pushed open the front glass doors and marched outside.
The salesman crossed his arms, tilted his head back, and let out a sharp laugh.
He pointed a finger directly at the older man’s worn jacket and told him he could never afford the vehicle.
The Worn Leather Wallet
The older man pulled an aged, cracked brown wallet from his pocket and held it in both hands.
He asked for the price of the truck, speaking softly while keeping his posture upright.
The salesman stepped into his personal space, raised his voice, and grabbed the man’s shoulder to shove him away from the entrance.
Inside the lobby, other staff members and customers stopped what they were doing and turned toward the glass.
A senior executive in a dark blue suit rushed through the sliding doors with his hands raised.
A Sudden Introduction
The executive brushed past the salesman and extended his right hand toward the older man.
The older man took his hand in a firm grip as the executive addressed him respectfully by name in front of the entire showroom.
The executive turned toward the gathered staff and announced that this visitor was Mr. Carter, the owner of the entire commercial property.
The salesman’s mouth fell open, his arms dropping limp to his sides as the color drained from his face.
Mr. Carter looked at the executive, gave a slight nod, and stated that he would be taking his purchase elsewhere.
The Final Departure
The executive pointed a sharp finger at the salesman and told him his employment was terminated immediately.
Mr. Carter walked across the asphalt, pulled open the door of a black truck, and climbed into the driver’s seat.
The fired salesman stood motionless behind the plate-glass showroom window, watching the black truck pull out onto the open road.
