Dealership Employee Orders Older Man Away From High End Showroom Floor

  • 3 min read

An Unwelcome Step Onto the Showroom Floor

The salesman stabbed his index finger forward and shouted across the polished tile floor. His teeth clenched as he closed the distance between himself and the older man standing beside the silver luxury sedan.

The visitor wore a faded canvas work jacket, loose denim jeans, and scuffed work boots. His gray hair stood out against the gleaming paint of the vehicle parked beneath the showroom spotlights.

He kept his hands loose at his sides and glanced toward the car door. He explained that he was simply looking at the vehicle.

The salesman stepped into his personal space, pointing directly toward the glass exit doors. He insisted that anyone wanting to view vehicles like this needed to do so from the sidewalk outside.

A Rapid Escalation

The visitor did not raise his voice or take a backward step. He pointed out that assumptions were being made before a single question had been asked.

The salesman shook his head, waving a dismissal with his open palm. He stated that people who bought cars in this building did not dress in dusty utility jackets.

He demanded that the visitor turn around and walk out immediately. The older man stood still, his eyes fixed on the younger employee.

A second employee in a dark tailored suit approached briskly from the glass office in the back. He stood between the two men and asked what was happening on the floor.

The Sudden Shift in Tone

The salesman explained that he was clearing out someone who clearly could not buy anything. He claimed the visitor was causing an issue by wandering near high-end inventory.

The newly arrived manager looked toward the visitor, then turned back to the salesman with furrowed brows. He asked the salesman if he actually knew the identity of the person standing before him.

The salesman shrugged and dismissed the man as merely another casual looker. The manager corrected him immediately, stating plainly that the man in the work jacket owned the entire dealership.

The salesman’s mouth fell open, and his eyes expanded as his shoulders dropped instantly. He shifted his weight from foot to foot while staring at the floor.

The manager asked him directly how it felt to tell the building’s owner to look at his own vehicles from the street outside. The salesman muttered an apology, keeping his head lowered.

Walking Past the Showroom Floor

The owner looked at the salesman and noted that an entire judgment had been based on clothing before asking for a name. He instructed the manager to make sure the entire staff remembered what just occurred.

He turned his back on the group and took slow, deliberate strides across the white ceramic tiles. The salesman remained standing motionless with his hands clasped low in front of his suit jacket as the older man walked toward the rear offices.
