A Tiny Face in the Window
A small golden retriever puppy pressed his nose against the glass of a front window.
His tiny front paws rested on the dark wooden sill as he watched the flashing red lights outside.
A firefighter in heavy tan gear walked across the grass and stopped right in front of the glass.
He peered inside and locked eyes with the frightened golden pup sitting on a wooden rocking chair.
The firefighter tapped his gloved fingers gently against the pane to comfort the animal.

Stepping Into the Danger
The firefighter turned and pushed open the front door of the smoky wooden house.

He reached up and planted a quick lick right on the firefighter’s cheek.

The puppy shook his fur out and took a few tentative steps toward some food bowls.
His tail, which had been tucked away in fear, began to wag gently back and forth.
He trotted over to the firefighter’s boots and sat down, looking up expectantly.
The firefighter reached down and scratched the puppy behind his floppy ears.
The puppy then jumped up onto a wooden bench right next to the firefighter and curled his body into a tight circle.
A female firefighter walked over with a big smile and clipped a shiny silver tag onto the puppy’s brand-new collar.
The puppy rested his chin on the firefighter’s thigh, closing his eyes as the man gently stroked his back.
