Man Stops Motorbike To Untangle Duck Family From Fishing Net

  • 4 min read

A Tangled Struggle on the Asphalt

A white duck flaps its wings frantically against the rough gray asphalt. A red mesh net, likely discarded near the water, has coiled itself tightly around the bird’s body and wings. Six small, yellow ducklings pace in tight, nervous circles around their mother. Their high-pitched, rhythmic chirping fills the air, echoing against the nearby tree line.

The mother duck stretches her neck forward, her beak wide open in a harsh quack. She tries to lift off, but the net holds her firmly to the ground. Every time she beats her wings, the fabric pulls tighter against her frame. Her movements are jerky and uncoordinated as she fights the invisible restraint.

The ducklings stay close, their tiny feet pattering against the pavement. One duckling wanders a few inches away, then immediately scurries back to the mother’s side. The mother duck shifts her weight, trying to stand, but her legs remain tangled within the coarse red material. She drags the net slightly, creating a small cloud of dust on the road surface.

The Unexpected Intervention

A black sedan approaches, its tires humming on the road. The driver slows down, maneuvering around the group of birds. Another car passes, forcing the mother duck to pull her neck in tight. The ducklings scatter momentarily, then converge back at the center of the mesh. A red motorcycle pulls up to the shoulder of the road, the engine noise fading into a low rumble.

The rider shifts his leg over the bike and steps onto the pavement. He wears a full-face helmet and black gloves. He approaches the mother duck with slow, deliberate steps. As he gets closer, he squats down, keeping his hands low to avoid startling the birds further. He assesses the way the net has looped around her wings.

The mother duck watches him, her head snapping from side to side. She lets out a sharp, raspy sound, but the rider doesn’t pull back. He reaches out and touches the red mesh, testing its tension. He begins to pull at the loops that have pinned her wing to the road. The ducklings huddle even closer, their small, downy bodies pressing against the rider’s boots.

The Careful Untangling

The rider uses his gloved fingers to widen the mesh holes. He pulls the net away from the duck’s chest, taking care not to snag the delicate feathers. The mother duck remains still as he works, her eyes fixed on his hands. He lifts the net slightly off the ground, creating enough space for her to pull her leg free. He concentrates on a knot that has tightened near her wing joint.

With a firm tug, he pulls the red fabric away from the duck’s body. The mother duck lets out a soft, short sound as the tension releases. She shifts, testing her wing. The rider holds the net open, allowing her to slide out completely. He tosses the discarded mesh aside, clearing the path.

The mother duck stands, shaking her body. Her wings flare out once, smoothing the feathers back into place. She turns her head, checking on her six ducklings. The small birds move toward her, chirping loudly. She waddles toward the edge of the road, her steps quick and steady now. The rider remains in his crouched position, watching as the family makes their way toward the water.

A Return to the Shore

The mother duck reaches the rocky bank of the lake. She glides into the cool, dark water without hesitation. The six ducklings follow her, splashing into the lake one by one. They form a neat line behind her as she paddles away from the shore. The rider stands up, his movements slow and relaxed.

He turns and walks back to his motorcycle, his boots crunching on the gravel. He reaches the bike and pauses, looking out toward the center of the lake. The mother duck and her ducklings are now small dots moving away from the shore. The rider lifts his hand, adjusts his helmet, and turns to watch the water until the birds disappear near the tall reeds.
